Your ballot is already in your mailbox

Get it in a box by 7:00 PM
Saturday, Aug 8

It has to be physically in the county’s hands by then. A postmark does not count. If it shows up late, it does not get counted.

Mailing it on August 8 is too late. Don’t put your ballot in the mail on Election Day — drop it in a ballot box in your county instead.

Four steps

About 5 minutes
  1. 1

    Mark your ballot

Blue or black ink. No white-out. If you make a mistake, request a replacement instead of fixing it.

  2. 2

    Use the green secrecy sleeve

It came in your packet. Your ballot is separated from your envelope before anyone counts it.

  3. 3

Sign the back of the envelope Don’t skip

The most common reason a ballot gets rejected. An unsigned envelope cannot be accepted.

  4. 4

    Return it

Postage is already paid. Ballot box, Voter Service Center, or mail — check timing below first.

Not registered? You can still vote.

Hawaiʻi lets you register right up through Election Day. But ballots were mailed the week of July 20 — so if you register now, plan on voting in person.

Best option — do it in one trip

Go to any Voter Service Center. You can register and vote in the same visit. Bring ID. They’re open through 7:00 PM on Saturday, August 8, including Election Day itself. Locations and hours are listed below.

Or start online

Register or check whether you’re already registered at olvr.hawaii.gov. Not sure if your registration is current? This is the fastest way to find out.

Check or update your registration

Heads up: registering online now does not mean a ballot will reach you in time to return it by August 8. Plan to vote in person.
